Ellen Ratner’s Documentary “A Force of Nature” to premiere at Woodstock Film Festival

World Premiere of A FORCE OF NATURE from Long-Time Festival Friend Barbara Kopple to screen at 2011 Woodstock Film Festival

Barbara Kopple’s “A Force of Nature” will have its World Premiere screening on September 25, 11am at the Kleinert/James Art Center in Woodstock during the 2011 Woodstock Film Festival.

“A Force of Nature” is a celebration of Ellen Ratner’s life and work, an award-winning journalist and philanthropist, whose journey from her home in Washington, DC to hurricane-ravaged Mississippi, to war-torn South Sudan offers a rare perspective of how an unapologetically committed person can make a difference and help others do the same.”

“We are thrilled that “A Force of Nature,” about radio talk show host and philanthropist Ellen Ratner will have it’s world premiere at the WFF,” said Kopple.

Academy–Award® and 2006 honorary Maverick Award recipient winner Barbara Kopple is making her way to the Woodstock Film Festival once again. Kopple’s films have screened since the inaugural WFF at which her film “My Generation” closed the festival. Other screenings have included “Shut Up and Sing” and “Woodstock: Now and Then.” In 2009, Kopple also participated in Youth Career Day where select students were given the opportunity to interact with professionals in the film industry.

Barbara Kopple is a two-time Academy-Award® winning filmmaker. A director of documentaries, as well as narrative TV and film, her most recent project is the documentary “Gun Fight,” which premiered on HBO in April 2011. Barbara produced and directed “Harlan County USA” and “American Dream,” both winners of the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Her other films include “The House of Steinbrenner,” “Woodstock: Now and Then,” “Shut Up and Sing,” “Havoc,” “A Conversation with Gregory Peck,” “My Generation,” “Wild Man Blues,” “Fallen Champ: The Untold Story of Mike Tyson,” and many more.
